Meatless Monday at BellyQ: The Perfect Meal for a Perfect Evening
My good friend Tiffany and I are a self-proclaimed restaurant enthusiast and a couple of culinary connoisseurs.
A night out on the town is typical but Monday’s aren’t usually the norm. I know a lot of people don’t get along with Monday but hey, its one of my favorite days of the week. We’re feeling good, looking great and thinking positive!
Tiffany always says I need to eat more veggies, so I invited her out to the Meatless Monday Vegetable Grill Feast at BellyQ. See the menu HERE.
This was both our first time at the restaurant, and it did not disappoint. BellyQ is an Asian barbecue concept located in Chicago’s trendy West Loop district. It’s one of the dopest spots on restaurant row.
Being the carnivore that I am I didn’t know what to expect. But I’m always down to do something different. And this concept is differently different. We were greeted with smiles and led to our table which has a hands-on grilling component built into the center of the table.
The grill tables at BellyQ are super cool. We loved being able to take beautiful, tasty, pre-marinated vegetables and grill them right at our table.
It’s a wonderfully fun conversation piece while you eat. I enjoyed controlling the temperature at which my food is cooked, and the nonabrasive grill doesn’t leave you smelling like smoke.
The pre-fixed menu was nothing short of amazing.
The Meatless Monday menu features a Cheddar Cheese Tofu Dip to start. I’ll be the first to admit I am not the biggest tofu fan, however, this dip made me a believer. It was complimented by crudite and rice crackers that made my taste buds do a special kind of dance.
Next, we were presented with an assortment of veggies ready for the grill. Delightful options such as sweet potatoes, king oyster mushrooms, marinated tofu, eggplant, spring asparagus and bok choy.
The menu even came with timing suggestions for cooking but of course, you can grill onto your heart’s desire.
We were also presented with seasonings such as Sesame-Seoul Sauce and Black Bean Vinaigrette to take the taste up a notch.
Due to her facial expressions, I could tell my friend had now entered into vegetarian heaven. Tiffany’s life changed as she filled lettuce cups with Napa Cabbage Kimchi, Asian Coleslaw, and Pickled Cucumbers to make a mind blowing lettuce wrap.
I was particularly excited about the fried rice included in the feast.
Of course, you can get the full menu on Mondays as well. However, Executive Chef Danny Sweiss and Chef Kim outdid themselves with launching a day dedicated to those that like to feast upon grilled veggies.
I asked Tiffany, to sum up her experience, here is what she had to say, “I’m pleasantly surprised. I don’t miss the meat. The veggies are very flavorful, but the sides take them to another level. The fried rice is the perfect compliment. The flavors are phenomenal, they work really well together. I’m happy with everything I’ve eaten.
The grill is really cute. I think it’s great for dates. The price point is great and I’m definitely coming back!”
I concur. Thank God it’s Monday!
I almost forgot to mention the space. BellyQ’s indoor decor features multiple dining areas, a fabulous full bar, the outdoor patio is pretty popular, the background music keeps the convo going and service was stellar. You can tell they’ve put great effort in creating an atmosphere conducive to a top notch dining experience.
