Meli Cafe: Cultivating Chicago’s Budding Brunch Culture
When I walk into Meli Cafe, I get such a good feeling. A delightful feeling that something good is about to happen. Good conversation, positive vibes, and amazing food. Meli Cafe is a greek influenced restaurant that creates the perfect environment to begin the day with a great start.
I haven’t seen my friend Tiffany in a while so what better way to catch up then to have brunch at Meli Cafe. Anytime you can find good parking in downtown Chicago, this is a huge hint that you’re going to have a good day.
Adequate parking is just one of the things the many things I appreciate this restaurant. We were coming in to catch up and also chat with the people behind this successful franchise.
I used to wonder why everyone inside is so happy so early in the day, but hey it’s the Meli way. We were coming in to catch up and also chat with the people behind this successful franchise. I used to wonder why everyone inside is so happy so early in the day, but hey it’s the Meli way.
It’s hard not to smile when you walk through the door and extremely easy to fall in love with the interior decoration of the cafe. From its wrap around seating layout and full bar to the huge windows letting tons of sunlight shine, there isn’t a bad seat in the house.
Something about it promotes style and comfort in such a harmonious way that it makes you feel all fuzzy inside.
The principals of Meli Cafe were so very accommodating, I almost felt like family. The more I toured their facilities the more I needed to know more.
I asked Angelo about some of their secrets to success, here is how or conversation went:
What keeps your regular customers coming back?
What keeps regulars coming back is the great natural home cooked food that we provide on an everyday basis. Regulars love the quality of food that they expect from us and our extensive menu.
What new flavors can customers expect for 2017?
We are working on a few sweet treats from brownie pancakes to churro waffles. As much as we stick to health-conscious items, our guests have been requesting some sinful delights which we love to oblige to.
How does the staff make a positive impact on every table?
Our motto to all staff members is to treat our guests as they would like to be treated when they dine out. We constantly train our staff on feedback we receive and never stop.
When I asked Angelo, What motivates your chef the most? He replied, “Chef Juan is motivated by the fact that he never wants to be in a stagnant food stage. Chef Juan loves to create different dishes based on the season and the taste buds of our guests. He is motivated by the fact that he wants to be the trend setter for breakfast/brunch in Chicago.”
These folks have a great team of chefs working hard to bring ultimate freshness. When I say fresh I mean fresh. The back of the house has zero microwaves and no freezers.
Alright, enough talking. Its time to eat!
We started with the Fresh Berries Crepes topped with blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. The crepes are topped with a honey sauce that sets the whole plate off. I need this sauce in my life, right now!
Tiffany ordered the chicken chorizo omelet which she described as, “Flavorful and spicy but not overwhelming. The jalapenos in the omelet were manageable. It’s a good balance of kick between the chorizo and jalapenos. I’m super impressed they have a chicken chorizo option instead of the usual pork.”
I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. honestly, these are some of the best chicken and waffles that I’ve ever had. And trust me, I’ve had my share of chicken and waffles. The chicken tenders were extremely juicy and flavored with special seasonings that seriously take the tenders to a different level.
The chicken is then topped with a handmade marmalade which Tiffany continued to rave over, “This marmalade takes this dish to places other restaurants have never gone.”
The waffles are delicious. They are flakey, light and stayed crispy even after being doused in maple syrup. The dish is topped with a fried sunny side up egg, completing the delectable fusion between savory and sweet. I’m seriously having a foodie flashback as I type, lol.
Meli Cafe has quickly become one of my favorite places to dine. They are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (Dearborn location). If you enjoy being treated well and fed ever better at a reasonable price, stop by one of the three Meli Cafe and Juice Bar locations today.
